Mountaire Farms opens $170 million chicken plant

Mountaire Farms has cut the ribbon on a $170 million chicken plant renovation project in Siler City, N.C.  Mountaire acquired the facility, formerly owned by now-defunct Townsends Inc., in May 2016. The updated facility includes a health and wellness center, which provides free medical services to Mountaire employees. The new chicken plant itself will employ as many as 1,250 when at full production, according to a report by the Asheboro Courier-Tribune.
