Chicken has never been better positioned to win in retail — and the competition has never been stiffer. That's the dual reality facing the broiler industry in 2026.

"I think chicken is in a really, really good place," Lynn Dornblaser, principal consultant at Mintel, said. "It is obviously a very good protein source, and it is entirely and completely adaptable. It can be as mild and boring as you want it to be, as simple and straightforward, or it can be just about anything you can imagine."

Dornblaser will explore significant shifts driven by consumer preferences and market dynamics for chicken in retail at the 2026 Chicken Marketing Summit, scheduled for July 27-29, 2026 at the Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida.

The protein race is getting crowded

Chicken has long carried a health advantage that other proteins lacked, but the new dietary guidelines announced earlier this year by U.S. Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins earlier this year could change that perception.
