Even though media outlets seem to target the poultry industry for the 1.35 million Salmonellosis cases seen annually, according to the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the poultry industry has implemented many interventions over the past two decades that have significantly reduced the incidence of the disease.

Even though the pathogen is ubiquitous, poultry food safety interventions are effective, which has led to a decrease in the Salmonellosis ratio to chicken consumed, explained University of Arkansas Associate Professor Bill Potter, Ph.D., at the 2025 Chicken Marketing Summit.
