US poultry industry invests $2.7 billion in processing

The U.S. poultry industry has invested US$2.7 billion in processing facility improvements over the past five years, with the majority targeting the further-processed sector, explained CoBank animal protein economist Brian Earnest at the 2025 Chicken Marketing Summit.
These investments have focused primarily on upgrading existing facilities and adding new processing lines rather than expanding capacity by constructing new plants.
